On 23 October 2018, the Association of Women in the Energy Sector of Kosovo (AWESK) held its first general assembly in Pristina. USAID’s energy sector activity helped create the association in April 2018 based on a recommendation by a USAID-supported women’s energy networking group. The association promotes gender equality in Kosovo’s energy sector by providing a networking and advocacy forum for female energy professionals.
At the meeting, participants and Advisory Board members elected an executive director and other senior leadership. Members also voted on and adopted core organizational documents, rules of procedure, and a three-year strategic action plan. USAID assisted in the creation of these foundational documents.
AWESK members, who work in energy-sector organizations and related fields, including academia and the energy-efficiency sector, include entry-level and mid-career professionals as well as retirees who are eager to share their experience. Through AWESK, members are working collaboratively to catalyze a change in attitudes toward women working in Kosovo’s energy sector.
